Why Coaching for Children & Teens?

Research evidences indicates that:

  • life experiences at an early age between 7-13 years greatly influence shape the choices we make and the paths we take.

  • experiences children have in early childhood shape the brain and the child’s capacity to learn, to get along with others, and to respond to daily stresses and challenges.

It is common during childhood and teen years, they may struggle with their relationships or find it difficult to manage their emotions, engage in disruptive behaviour, have learning challenges or difficulties with their siblings or parents.

A coaching journey using a scientific approach, rooted in behavioural sciences can help children and teens to build better awareness of Self and developing skills to facilitate a shift in thought and behaviour.

When such personal coaching is delivered using the safe and expressive medium of arts; that will be immensely beneficial for them, to understand their emotions and manage their emotional responses, thus influencing their behaviour positively.

How our Individual Coaching is Beneficial?

The individual coaching sessions we offer are designed based on the individual needs of each child.

Our speciality is the supportive use of creative expressive arts tools in our coaching sessions which provides a safe and supportive space for children to connect with their inner self, give voice to their emotions and learn methods to develop needed skills.

Expressive Art therapy tools are gentle, non-intrusive and child-centred.  EAT tools facilitate the expression of thoughts, feelings and memories that may or may not be easily expressed by words.

What is our Coaching Process?

Our individual coaching process helps to enhance a child's individual growth, self-confidence, and support children to develop skills needed for their emotional and social wellbeing. The process generally involves the following steps:

Assessment of skills and behavioural competencies:

We start the sessions with a structured assessment process; including parent-only sessions for parents to discuss their child’s unfolding development and current concerns being brought to therapy. Both parents are strongly encouraged to attend because both parents have their own perspective and routines with their child.

Benchmarking of expected developmental skills or competencies.

Based on the needs identified during the assessment; a benchmarking level of outcomes are mutually agreed; in consultation with the parent. We usually follow a structured framework of established emotional and social competencies like (OECD, 2015):

Managing Emotions:

·      Self-Esteem

·      Optimism

·      Confidence

Working with Others:

·      Sociability

·      Respect

·      Caring

Achieving Goals:

·      Perseverance

·      Self-Control

·      Passion for Goals

Action Planning and Goal Setting:

Following the assessment and benchmarking of expected development areas, we help the child /teen to co-create an individualized action plan. The facilitated planning journey culminates in the participant identifying and agreeing on a set of goals; forming the initial foundation of the subsequent coaching steps.

Individual Sessions:

Individual coaching sessions are usually scheduled once a week for an hour which may vary as per the need. We use experiential and creative mediums like colours, drawing, music, movement and storytelling so that the participants feel secured and enjoy the session.

Continuous Review and Refocus:

The ongoing review and refocus is built in the sessions ensuring appropriate achievement of targeted goals.
